On September 29th, 2023, at the Government Palace, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, welcomed the Executive Director of the Timorese Resistance Archives-Museum (AMRT, acronym in Portuguese), Hamar Antoninho Baptista Alves, and his team, for the first meeting since the AMRT was transferred to the responsibility of the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
During the meeting, the AMRT's ongoing commitment to preserving the memory of the Timor-Leste struggle was discussed, with a focus on the efforts undertaken to collect and preserve historical documents and the construction of the Garden of the Eternal Flame (Jardim da Chama Eterna), a new space that will be built next to the Timorese Resistance Archives-Museum.
The Jardim da Chama Eterna will be an exhibition space to promote cultural, scientific and educational activities to preserve and publicise the memory of the Timorese Resistance struggle, to recognise and value the veterans, to consolidate national identity, the contemporary history of Timor-Leste and to promote peace and respect for Human Rights. It will also be able to frame the memories of the Portuguese Colonial Administration and the background of the Indonesian Military Invasion.
AMRT officials have also endeavoured to establish partnerships with other national and foreign entities to ensure that the country's historical memory and heritage are preserved and made available to the general public.
