14th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the CPLP Focused on the Theme of Youth and Sustainability
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, accompanied the President of the National Parliament, Maria Fernanda Lay, to the 14th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), held in São Tomé and Príncipe on August 27th, 2023.
The Summit, dedicated to the theme "Youth and Sustainability in the CPLP", signalled the handing over of the CPLP presidency from Angola to São Tomé and Príncipe, as well as the re-election of the CPLP's Executive Secretary, Zacarias Albano da Costa, for the 2023-2025 biennium.
The choice of this theme reflected the CPLP's commitment to addressing the issues affecting youth in member countries, as well as creating opportunities for young people to actively participate in areas such as education, business, politics and social and economic development, thus contributing to the promotion of peace and economic development.
The CPLP Heads of State and Government welcomed the choice of the "Youth and Sustainability in the CPLP" theme for this conference. They pledged to promote political dialogue, the exchange of experiences and cooperation to raise the achievements of the CPLP in all areas. Mobility between the community's member states was another of the major themes of the 14th CPLP Summit.
During the event, the importance of promoting political dialogue, cooperation and the exchange of experiences between CPLP countries was highlighted, focusing on sustainable economic, social and environmental development. The conference also celebrated the 27th anniversary of the CPLP's Constitutive Declaration, reaffirming the commitment to solidarity, cooperation and democratic principles among the member countries.
At the close of proceedings, the President of the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, newly elected President of the Organisation, Carlos Vila Nova, announced that the 15th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the CPLP would be held in Guinea-Bissau.
