Projects for the future in the Health area

Timor-Leste is currently committed to fulfil the goals defined by the Millenium Development Goals for the health area, namely, the reduction of mortality rate and nutrition and hospital services improvement.
According to the Vice Minister of Health, Madalena Hanjan, “we have to train our human resources well to adjust and adapt to the technology that we have. With well trained human resources, we increase the quality, even if we have to invest more in the quantity of resources, we will train well and safely”.
On the long term, the objective is to advocate the National Strategic Development Plan, that is being presented by the Prime Minister all over the country, and which predicts the construction of more reference hospitals and a bigger investment in palliative care, avoiding sending patients abroad.
“We now have a good collaboration with Indonesia and Singapore, which will send medical experts to Timor and help in terms of medications and equipment, in a way that allows the performance of operations here. This is a big advancement for health one that gives us confidence” concluded the Vice-Minister of Health.
