Prime Minister of Australia congratulates Xanana Gusmão and wishes success for the 9th Government’s term of office
During a phone conversation on the morning of August 2nd, 2023, the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, extended his congratulations and best wishes to the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, on his recent inauguration as head of the 9th Constitutional Government of Timor-Leste.
The Australian Prime Minister praised the “peaceful and democratic environment in which this year's parliamentary elections were held, in which the people placed their trust in the formation of the 9th Government”.
Anthony Albanese expressed his “high hopes for the collaboration between the Australian Government and the 9th Government, led by the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão”.
Both government leaders considered this moment “a new chapter in the relations between the two countries” and expressed their “willingness to work together”.
In this friendly conversation, the Prime Minister of Australia invited Prime Minister Xanana to pay a visit to Australia next year to discuss and strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Likewise, Xanana Gusmão also invited the Head of Government of Australia to visit Timor-Leste. 
In the first week of the 9th Constitutional Government, Prime Minister Xanana received the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Australia, Penny Wong, to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
