Brazil intends to continue bilateral cooperation with Timor-Leste and resume support in the area of vocational training

On August 1st, 2023, the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, welcomed the Ambassador of Brazil to Timor-Leste, Maurício Medeiros de Assis, at the Government Palace, in Dili, to discuss cooperation between the two countries, focusing on the projects developed over the last twenty years in Timor-Leste in the sectors of education and vocational training, justice and the military. 1be4b232-a00a-4280-bc1f-4c93ade27dc0

The Brazilian Ambassador expressed interest in resuming cooperation in vocational training with the Becora Training Centre in Dili, which was established and supported for several years by the Brazilian vocational learning centre SENAI (National Service for Industrial Learning).

The Brazilian diplomat also highlighted cooperation in the justice sector, with support for the development of the National Public Defender’s office, in the military area with technical training for the Timorese military and in education, in partnership with the Universidade Nacional Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL). Reference was also made to the cooperation project with the Secretary of State for Cooperatives for creating a credit cooperative and the initiative to establish a medicine factory in the country.

58379c71-1e2e-4e7f-bf0c-9179ad30ae36The Ambassador of Brazil emphasised the fraternal ties that unite the two countries in the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) and wished success to Timor-Leste’s application to become a full member of ASEAN.

Minister Agio Pereira briefed the Diplomat on the main priorities of the 9th Constitutional Government’s Program, emphasising key areas such as economic development, oil, infrastructure, training of human resources, decentralisation, and job creation, through the strengthening of the national private sector and the attraction of foreign investment.
