Prime Minister meets Portuguese Ambassador to discuss upcoming visit of Portuguese Head of Government to Timor-Leste next week
The Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, received the Ambassador of Portugal to Timor-Leste, Manuela Bairos, on July 17th, 2023, at the Government Palace in Dili.
The diplomat congratulated Xanana Gusmão on his recent inauguration as Head of the 9th Constitutional Government of Timor-Leste and briefed the Prime Minister on the official visit of his Portuguese counterpart, António Costa, scheduled for July 25th and 26th. 
During the meeting, Manuela Bairos expressed Portugal's willingness to continue bilateral cooperation between Portugal and Timor-Leste in several areas. The diplomat stressed the importance of cooperation in education and training in the Portuguese language and in strengthening the administrative sector and social security. Moreover, plans were discussed for support in the justice sector and other priority areas, including defence and security cooperation.
The official visit of Prime Minister António Costa to Timor-Leste represents an opportunity to deepen relations between the two countries and strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation.
