43 Timorese Workers went to South Korea

On the 29th of May of 2010, the Timor-Leste Government, through the Secretariat of State of Professional Training and Employment (SoSPTE) sent 43 more Timorese workers to South Korea.
“On the 14th of May, in South Korea, the SoSPTE and the South Korean Ministry of Labour renewed an agreement that predicts employing Timorese workers for two years periods” informed the Secretary of State Bendito Freitas who added that “in regards to this agreement, the SoSPTE and the South Korean Labour Ministry will work together to increase the sending of Timorese workers to South Korea until we reach one thousand, two thousand or three thousand, before the end of 2012”.
During the farewell ceremony of this 8th group of Timorese workers that went to South Korea, the Secretary of State of Professional Training and Employment appealed to the workers’ parents to encourage their children to continue with this career and give a good image of Timor-Leste in that country.
These 43 workers (of whom 33 are men and ten are women), were employed by 19 South Korean companies dedicated to different areas such as industry (where 10 persons went), agriculture (16 persons) and fisheries (17 persons).
