The inaugural flight of the first Timorese-flagged aircraft, an A320 operated by the national airline Aero Dili Transport Service S.A., occurred yesterday, March 20th, 2023.
The inaugural flight from Indonesia landed in Dili around 8:30 a.m. with seventeen passengers, including the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, José Agustinho da Silva. Several Government members and the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, witnessed the plane's arrival at President Nicolau Lobato International Airport.
Starting March 28th, Aero Dili will start scheduled flights to Indonesia and Singapore, with plans to expand to Australia, China, and the Philippines.
The Government members at the ceremony welcomed the arrival of the Timorese-flagged aircraft. They believed it would lead to lower prices and improvements in national mobility and connectivity.
They also highlighted the air transport agreements signed with several countries during the 8th Constitutional Government’s term of office.
