MAPCOMS inaugurates new Community Radio building in Ataúro
On March 10th, 2023, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Social Communication (MAPCOMS), Francisco Martins da Costa Pereira Jerónimo, inaugurated the Lian Manu Koko Community Radio building in the Municipality of Ataúro.
During his speech, Minister Francisco Jerónimo assured that, although community radios are initiatives of the community itself, the Government will continue to support community radios through training so that communities can have access to information and freedom of expression, as provided for in the Constitution.
The Minister also informed that a ministerial decree is being prepared, which will be finalised before the end of the Government’s term of office, aiming at allowing the broadcasting of national news to rural areas.
The Administrator of the Ataúro Municipality, Domingos Soares, thanked, on behalf of the community, the presence of the Minister and his entourage and stressed the importance of the existence of a community radio in the municipality for sharing information in Ataúro.
Domingos Soares called on journalists to present accurate and factual information to the public so that the community may follow the current situation and also asked them to promote the use of mother tongues so that the new generations may continue to learn and use them.
The President of the Lian Manu Koko Community Radio Council, Avelino Pereira, thanked the Minister for providing support so that this radio station may function adequately.
The President of TATOLI, IP, Manuel Pinto, the Chief of Staff of Minister MAPCOMS, Francisco Ximenes, the National Director of Local Media Promotion and Development, José da Costa, local authorities, and the community of Ataúro also attended the ceremony.
