Closing of the 1st edition of the Government Legislative Procedure Training
The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, on behalf of the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, accompanied by the Vice-Rector of the University of Minho, Professor Luis Amaral, held the closing ceremony of the 1stedition of the Government Legislative Procedure Training Program.
The training, which started on November 21st, 2022, was organised by the Legal Support Office (GAJ – Portuguese acronym) of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in collaboration with the University of Minho, from Portugal.
This training in Government Legislative Procedure was aimed at the focal points of the ministerial legal offices. It included modules taught by University of Minho professors and thematic sessions led by jurists from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Prime Minister’s Office.
In his statement, Minister Fidelis Magalhães expressed his satisfaction in “seeing such a young audience working for the future of our country”. The Minister added that besides hoping that the training “will be useful for your professional performance”, he hopes it will also allow them to “build better, more attentive, participative and demanding citizens” because “this is the only way we can build a better State together”.
The Minister defended that “the quality of legislation is increasingly decisive for the fulfilment of all the State’s purposes”, which is why “this Government placed the improvement of the quality of legislation as one of its priorities in recent years”.
“For this Government, the reform of the legislative procedure and its daily implementation is evidence of our Democracy in action, the dream that animated us in the fight for national independence and for which we must all now fight every day”, the Minister added.
Training certificates were delivered during the ceremony, and an electronic tool for the Government’s legislative procedure under development was presented.
The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Social Communication, Francisco Martins da Costa Pereira Jerónimo, the Minister of Transport and Communications, José Agustinho da Silva, representatives of the ministerial lines and focal points of the legal offices that participated in the training also attended this event.
