Minister Fidelis Magalhães appointed as extraordinary envoy to COP27
The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, through Decree No. 86/2022, of October 24th, appointed the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães, as an extraordinary envoy of the President of the Republic, to participate in the 27th Session of the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), which will take place from November 6th to 18th 2022, in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt.
The aforementioned Decree explains that this appointment takes place “due to the impossibility of the President of the Republic travelling to Egypt to participate in this Summit” and also taking into account “the relevance of the matters to be dealt with at the aforementioned event and the importance of having representation of the Republic Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in this high-level event”.
The Conference of the Parties brings together political leaders of the countries that are part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and representatives of civil, scientific and academic society to promote the debate on the causes and effects of climate change, with the aim of defining national and global goals and agreements to respond to this challenge.
The national delegation, led by the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, will also have the participation of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Demétrio do Amaral de Carvalho.
