The Hatu-Udo sub-district is made up of two sucos, Leolima and Foho Ailiku, and 16 villages with a total of 10.648 habitants, of which around 99% live from agriculture.

Last Tuesday, 19th of May, it was the turn of the Hatu-Udo sub-district to receive the Prime Minister’s consultation on the National Strategic Plan (NSDP). In his entourage were the Secretary of State of Livestock, Valentino Varela and the Ainaro district administrator, all whom were welcomed by the Hatu-Udo sub-district administrator, by the local authorities and the people.

The Head of Government was dressed by the elders, wearing the traditional cloths of that region and was later accompanied by a group of children that danced the “tabetai, being applauded on his way to the area were the NSDP consultation would be held.

While explaining the NSDP, the Prime-Minister said: “it’s time to change the way of thinking of the leaders because the parents still continue to dig the land to feed their children. The State has the obligation to give attention to the Timorese children, and take into account the basic necessities and create infrastructure in good conditions. The State should repair the infra-structures so the people can live independently”.

After hearing the Prime Minister’s explanation, the local authorities and the population presented their concerns in relation to the lack of nurses in the clinics, the roads that connect the villages, the need to increase classrooms in primary schools, electricity, the “pousada” and the Ai-assa riverside bridge that collapsed. The Prime Minister answered that he shares these concerns and referred that these are reflected in the NSDP, where this information has been collected since the year 2001.

After the end of the consultation, the Plan is going to be presented to the National Parliament for approval. If approved, the Plan will be implemented fomenting the people’s development for periods of 5 years.
