The Prime-Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructures, Pedro Lay and by the Secretary of State of Public Works, Domingos Caeiro, were welcomed by the Administrator and by the traditional group of the Remexio sub-district in accordance with Timorese ritual.

The Aileu district Administrator and the sub-district Administrator, welcomed the delegation, and at the same time introduced the sub-district, composed by 8 Sucos and 27 villages with 10.578 inhabitants. Corn, cassava, potato, yam and beans are the local produce as well as orange, tangerine, banana and pineapple.

The population subsists from selling their produce and, for example, to be able to transport three or four bags of cassava leaves to the city, can only earn 5 dollars to buy salt and petrol, the rest of the money is to pay the transport to return home. This reveals the struggle for the daily survival of the Remexio people.

Kay Rala Xanan Gusmão said that the Strategic Development Plan program that will be implemented, includes basic infrastructure construction, namely roads, electricity, drinking water, telecommunications, agriculture and agro-industry.

The Prime-Minister appealed to the community for Peace and stability consolidation, avoiding violent practices that give origin to instability which in return impacts properties. Stability originates love, Peace and quiet for the benefit of Timor-Leste’s development, said the Prime-Minister.
