The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and Territory, José Maria dos Reis, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adaljiza Magno and members of the delegation, participated, today, in the 13th Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which took place in Luanda, Angola, on July 17th, 2021.

The Luanda Summit had, as its motto, “Building and Strengthening a Common and Sustainable Future” and took place on the day that CPLP celebrates its 25th anniversary.

During the Luanda Summit, Zacarias Albano da Costa, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Timor-Leste was sworn in as Executive Secretary of CPLP, succeeding the Portuguese Francisco Ribeiro Telles. Cape Verde officially ended its mandate and the Republic of Angola assumed the Rotating Presidency of the CPLP.

The Vice Prime Minister, in his speech at the summit, stressed that “ this year is a very special year for our community, which celebrates the first quarter of a century, the first 25 years of its existence”.

He also stated that “given that the threats and challenges ahead are of a global nature”, member countries have “to learn to network” and have to “learn to develop partnerships to trigger investment and develop the private sector”.

Recalling the words of President Nicolau Lobato, in his last speech in 1978, Vice Prime Minister concluded his speech by saying that “we may be a small community in the middle of this world, but the will to do more and for the best of our people will lead us to more victories”.
