Timor-Leste received today 52,850 more vaccines from Australia
A batch of 52,850 additional AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines arrived today, July 14th, 2021, from Australia. This is the seventh shipment from Australia, bringing the total number of COVID-19 vaccines supplied by Australia to 227,580.
In addition to the vaccines from Australia, 124,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, under the COVAX mechanism, and 100,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine, offered by China, arrived in the country, making a total of 451,580 doses of vaccines against COVID-19.
Nationwide, 237,946 people (31.5% of the population over 18) have already received the first dose of the vaccine and 42,942 people (5.7%) have completed the vaccination.
In the Dili Municipality, 118,530 people have already received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 (55.4%) and 30,558 people have received two doses (14.3%).
At the meeting of the Council of Ministers, on July 14th, 2021, a new strategy of vaccination against COVID-19 was approved for each municipality, which involves mobilising the maximum resources for vaccination in each municipality, according to the defined calendar, starting in the municipalities at higher risk, until it reaches all the municipalities in the country.
To ensure the vaccination of the entire population, especially young people between 12 and 17 years of age, the Council of Ministers also instructed the Ministry of Health to begin the process of acquiring Pfizer vaccines and to gather the necessary conditions and equipment for their packaging and transport.
