Timor-Leste receives another 65 thousand COVID-19 vaccines from Austrália

Today, June 30, 2021, a batch of over 65,000 vaccines against COVID-19 from Australia arrived. Altogether, Australia has provided 135,000 vaccines to Timor-Leste.

In addition to vaccines from Australia, 124,800 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in the country under the COVAX Facility and 100,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine offered by China, making a total of 359,800 doses of vaccines against COVID-19.

More than 200 thousand people across the country have already received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, which represents 26.5% of the population over 18 years of age. In Dili a total of 110,442 people, 51.7%, already have the first dose. The second dose has already been administered to 25,646 (6.55%) people nationwide and to 13,996 (3.40%) in the capital.

Australia has expressed "its pride in providing safe Australian-made AstraZeneca vaccines to Timor-Leste and other neighboring countries in the region at a time when the global supply of vaccines is limited".

At the meeting of the Council of Ministers on June 23, 2021, the objectives for the vaccination campaign were redefined, with the goal of reaching 10,000 inoculations per day, nationwide.
