The inter-ministerial committee responsible for the implementation of the national vaccination plan announced today, May 21st, 2021, that a total of 53 400 people has already received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19. Of them, around 40,800 were vaccinated in Dili, which corresponds to 11% of the population of the capital.

The national vaccination campaign against new coronavirus started on April 7th, after the arrival of the first 24 thousand doses sent by the COVAX mechanism and with the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak, being the first citizen in the country to receive the first dose of the vaccine. As the vials always contain a larger quantity, it was possible to vaccinate around 28,600 people in the first phase.

During this month, on the 5th and 19th, Timor-Leste received two batches of vaccines from Australia, and the second vaccination campaign started on May 10th.

20 thousand AstraZeneca vaccines offered by Australia arrived in Timor-Leste today, May 19th, 2021. This is the second batch of vaccines provided by Australia to Timor-Leste, after the arrival of the first 20 thousand vaccines, last May 5th.

In the last ten days, an average of about 2280 vaccines have been administered per day.

On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved a Government Resolution that defines as a goal to be reached, in the vaccination campaign, the number of 5000 people vaccinated per day.

The latest figures presented yesterday by the Integrated Centre for Crisis Management indicate that Timor-Leste has an accumulated total of 5121 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Of the 2398 active cases currently, 1949 are in the municipality of Dili, 136 in Baucau, 122 in Covalima and 88 in Viqueque. The national incidence rate is 13.4/100,000 inhabitants and in Dili it is 40.6/100,000 inhabitants.
