Interministerial Cooperation for the Development of Tourism in Timor-Leste

The Ministry for Tourism, Commerce and Industry (MTCI) and the Ministry for Education (ME), through the State Secretariat for Culture (SSC), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that aims to develop the Tourism industry in Timor-Leste, with the country’s cultural values as its foundation.
During the MOU signature’s ceremony, which took place in Dili this Monday, the Minister for Tourism, Commerce and Industry (MTCI), Gil da Costa Alves referred that “Tourism, integrated in the Culture and Tradition of Timor-Leste, will be the best means of attracting tourists to this new country, especially those you wish to appreciate the beautiful touristic panorama, obtain better understanding on the history of the country, the charm of its traditional and cultural rituals”.
The Minister for Education, João Câncio Freitas, used the opportunity to enhance the cooperation of both Ministries and, in an effective way, be able to attempt the preservation of the cultural heritage of the country. The first step taken by the ME was the creation of the Vocational School, in the sector of Hospitality, which will give support to the private sector.
The Secretary of State for Culture, Virgílio Smith, the National Director for Tourism, José Quintas, and the remainder of the national directors from both Ministries were present at the signing of the MOU.
