The Government of Timor-Leste, through Mrs. Lúcia Lobato, Minister for Justice, participated in Meeting 6299 of the United Nations Security Council, in New York, which debated on the strategy for peace consolidation in post-conflict nations.

In this meeting, post-conflict nations such as Afghanistan, Sierra Leon and Timor-Leste, shared experiences on how to consolidate Peace and stability in these countries.

In her intervention, Minister Lúcia Lobato underlined that “to consolidate Peace and stability within a country, it is necessary to hold and inclusive political dialogue, determine the national priorities correctly within a flexible long-term vision and respect the laws.”

The Minister also added that Timor-Leste, with courage, has taken the initiative to be the host of an International Conference that lasted 4 days (from 7 to 10 April, in Díli), with the development partners and the fragile states, to focus on the challenges and ways of conflict solving.

Lúcia Lobato also mentioned the success that Timor-Leste has had, as a post-conflict nation, in solving the country’s internal problems, such as the Internal Displaced Persons, food storage, elevated price of rice, the consolidation of the country’s internal security, the recognition of their Homeland heroes, the strengthening of relations with Indonesia through the Truth and Friendship Commission and also the promotion of intensive dialogue between the leaders of these two countries.
