National Parliament approves the ratification of Air Services Agreement with Australia
On January 26th, 2021, the National Parliament discussed and approved, a Resolution Proposal for the ratification of an Air Services Agreement with Australia, with 45 votes in favour, two votes against and 12 abstentions, in a debate attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affair and Cooperation, Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno and the Minister of Transports and Communications, José Agustinho da Silva.
After reading the conclusions of the National Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security (Committee B), the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation defended the importance of the ratifying this agreement “which will bring benefits to the national economy” enabling support for “tourism growth and increased national employability”.
This Air Service Agreement was signed by both countries in 2017 and has already been ratified by Australia. It is based on the desire of both countries to promote an international aviation system of competition between air transport companies in the market, with competitive, innovative and safe services.
This agreement also aims to ensure the highest level of international security and protection, reaffirming its serious concern for acts and threats against aircraft safety.
With the ratification of the Agreement, airlines will be allowed to enter the airspace of the two countries without prior authorization, provided that regulatory requirements, including safety requirements are met, which will allow for increased competition, which may reduce the costs of tickets and freight transportation.
