11th Anniversary of the Special Police Unit

Vice Minister of Interior, António Armindo, chaired, on August 14th, 2020, the commemoration ceremony of the Special Police Unit (UEP) of the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) anniversary, which took place on the UEP Headquarter Premisses, in Dili.

During the ceremony, after Vice Minister reviewing the Armed Forces in parade, the decorations, rank insignia and awards were handed over to the UEP members who demonstrated their dedication over the years and who carried out their duties with discipline and professionalism.

In his speech, the Vice Minister of Interior, said that “we are here today to celebrate the eleventh UEP’s anniversary, as special elite unit integrated in the PNTL”.

The Vice Minister congratulated the UEP members for their “commitment, dedication, firmness and courage with which they perform their functions” and “given the military nature and special character” of this unit, he called on its members to “carry out constant practice and training actions, to increase technical efficiency”.

António Armindo recognized that “this development of UEP’s capacities requires investment” and that “therefore, despite having only completed two months in the Government”, he will “join effort in the UEP’s development, to train people with professionalism, discipline and which demonstrate all their capacity, with respect for the community”.

The event was also attended by the President of the Committee B of the National Parliament, Jose Agostinho Sequeira “Somotxo”, the PNTL’s General Commander, Police Commissioner Faustino da Costa, the General Director of the Migration Service, Superintendent Chief of Police, Agostinho Gomes da Silva, the former PNTL’s General Commander, Paulo de Fátima Martins, the representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations, the Asia Foundations and the TLPDP (Timor-Leste Program Development Police) and representatives of civil society.
