The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister  of  Social Solidarity  and  Inclusion,  Armanda Berta dos Santos,  led today, June 9, 2020, the official launch of the payment of monetary support to households under the COVID-19 pandemic response, at a ceremony held in the Comoro suco, part of the Don Aleixo Administrative Post, in the municipality of Díli.

The amount of monetary support is set at US$100 per month for each family (uma kain), provided none of its members receives a monthly amount equal to or greater than US$500. This measure aims to support the most disadvantaged families, who have lost their incomes, or were affected by the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the national economy.

In this first phase, two months will be paid, in the amount of 200 U.S. dollars for each uma kain, corresponding to the first two months of the subsidy, which will benefit more than 298,000  families, from all over the country, excluding the Special Administrative Region of Oe-Cusse Ambeno.

In addition to this measure, the Government is implementing a package of socio-economic support initiatives for households and businesses to minimise the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the main objective of protecting people, saving jobs, maintaining consumption and helping private sector activity.
