SECOMS receives visit from the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal
The State Secretary for Social Communication (SECOMS), Merício Juvenal dos Reis "Akara", received the visit of the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal, Teresa Ribeiro, accompanied by the Vice-President of the Instituto Camões IP, Gonçalo Teles Gomes, and the Portuguese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, José Pedro Machado Vieira, on October 9, 2018, at the Government Palace in Dili.
During the visit the two Secretaries of State spoke about cooperation in the media sector that is currently taking place and other possibilities of cooperation in this area.
The Secretary of State for Social Communication, representing the Government of Timor-Leste, expressed his satisfaction at the cooperation between the two countries, which has shown very positive results.
Merício Akara also added that both sides intend to continue cooperation in the media sector, in particular with the cooperation between the Lusa Agency and the Tatoli Agency and between RTP and RTTL to identify the RTTL needs and programs that should be targeted by the cooperation with RTP.
Teresa Ribeiro said that in a democratic society it is very important that journalists carry out their mission and activities with quality, because journalists have a decisive role in informing citizens, so that they can make their political choices consciously.
The Portuguese Secretary of State also stressed that RTP has several contents and programs that it can share with Timor-Leste, and that it will seek to accelerate this process so that it can move forward as soon as possible. Teresa Ribeiro also assured that Lusa is also available to cooperate with Timor-Leste.
