Swearing-in of the New President of the Board of Directors of R.T.T.L.
Today, February 1st, the ceremony to swear-in the new President of the Board of Directors of Timor-Leste Radio and Television (RTTL, EP), Gil da Costa, was held at the Government Palace building, in Dili.
The event featured a speech by the newly appointed President of the Board of Directors of R.T.T.L, as well as that of the Prime Minister, Marí Alkatiri.
In his speech, Gil da Costa stated that he will in his power so that RTTL may fulfill the mission of informing the public with rigor and ethical responsibility, working jointly with the remaining employees of the public company, since "there are no supermen, just super teams."
For his part, the Prime Minister highlighted RTTL’s importance in carrying out its function of informing the citizens "with total exemption and impartiality, not faltering under any kind of pressure", and the public company's need to generate revenues and manage them in an efficient and sensible manner. He concluded by saying that RTTL, in the following months, "should focus on the electoral news coverage process, following all political parties in an impartial and objective manner, without preferential or discriminatory treatment."
Also present at this ceremony were the Minister in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Adriano do Nascimento, the Secretary of State for the Council of Ministers and of the Media, Matias Boavida, Deputy Prime Minister for Governance Affairs, José Reis, the Minister of State and Minister of Natural Resources, Mariano Sabino, the Minister of Tourism, Manuel Vong, the outgoing President of the Board of Directors of R.T.T.L, Milena Abrantes Soares, as well as representatives of national and international media bodies.
