The National Directorate for Disaster Risks of the Ministry of Social Solidarity held a meeting on July 10^th at the Timor Plaza, in Díli, on the development of the Díli-Ainaro road corridor project, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and relevant ministries.

This project, approved in August 2014, aims to benefit communities living along the road that links Díli to Ainaro, by improving connectivity and reducing the impact of natural disasters - particularly landslides and floods that occur every year. As a part of the project training activities were developed for the communities along the road [about 26 sucos] and the project will finish in October this year.

The Disaster Risk Management Training Manual was also presented at this meeting and its importance was highlighted by the Minister for Social Solidarity, Isabel Amaral Guterres: "Every year landslides, floods, strong winds occur and the information contained in this manual enables us to develop a more complete plan to reduce the impacts of natural disasters in the country." 

The minister added that this manual benefits the communities settled along the Díli-Ainaro road corridor, as well as researchers.

Present at this meeting were the UNDP National Director, Knut Ostby, General Directors, National Directors and Heads of Department of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, as well as representatives from other Ministries.
