Timor-Leste and Indonesia high-level meetings to finalize land boundary going well

According to the joint press release on the second meeting of senior officials of the two countries, held in Dili, between April 6th and 8th, the negotiations over the delimitation of the final border segments between Timor-Leste and Indonesia are going well.

The delegation of Timor-Leste was ledby the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Roberto Soares, whilst Indonesia’s delegation was led by Ambassador Desra Percaya, Director General for Asia-Pacific and Africa from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The segments of land boundary not yet defined between the two countries are Bijael Sunan/Oben and Noel Besi/Citrana. A joint visit to the sites has been agreed and there was general agreement that the sociocultural ties and the well-being of the communities should be taken into account.

Reflective dialogue prior to the Second Consultation meetingOn the day prior to the meeting, a discussion was held on “Promoting Peace and Stability in the Region and Beyond by Sharing Our Unique Experience of Reconciliation and Friendship”, with the participation of the former Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Mari Alkatiri, and the former Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajuda.

The first meeting of senior officials of Timor-Leste and Indonesia took place in Bali, on March 10th and 11th, 2002.
