Victims of natural disasters in the Municipality of Aileu receive construction materials
The 2016/2017 monsoon season has wreaked havoc in some municipalities, and since the beginning of the year, the Government has been supporting the victims of the heavy rains that have caused floods and the destruction of houses and crops in Ermera, Metinaro and Dili.
On April 24th, the Vice Minister of Social Solidarity, Miguel Marques Gonçalves "Manetelu", distributed construction materials to 23 families who were victims of natural disasters, in the Hudi Laran hamlet, Aisirimou village, in the Municipality of Aileu. These materials include zinc, nails, cement, iron, wire and also financial support, in which each family receives US $368.
During the distribution the Deputy Minister said that 13 of the beneficiary families were victims of last year's severe weather conditions and the other families were victims of this year’s storms.
"The State is not going to build new homes for the victims, but it has a responsibility to help them build their houses," he added. He also urged affected families to look for safer places to build their homes.
João da Costa, one of the beneficiaries, will follow the recommendations of the Vice Minister and expressed his satisfaction with the support from the State, because, although it is a small support he said, it will help him when building his own house.
Also present from the Government was the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, Leovigildo Hornai. From the Municipality of Aileu, the President of the Municipal Authority, the PNTL Commander, the Director of the Social Solidarity Center, Catarina de Araújo, the Emergency Department Chief, Albino Nicolau Freitas, and other local authorities were present.
