Ministry of Health renews cooperation agreement with Chinese Government
The Vice Minister of Health, Ana Isabel Soares, renewed the cooperation agreement concerning the work of the Chinese Medical Brigade, with the representative of the Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Li Fanjie. The agreement was signed on January 23rd, 2017, in the Ministry of Health, in Caicoli, Dili.
The Vice Minister recalled that this agreement has been continuing since the 2nd Constitutional Government and that every two years its renewal with the necessary adjustments is completed, in particular with the medical teams that provide support in the National Hospital Guido Valadares, as well as the provision of medicines and medical equipment.
Ana Isabel Soares stated that there are already Timorese professionals going through specialty studies, for a few months, in China. The new medical brigade has 12 people, 3 women and 9 men. They will be working in different areas, including anaesthesia, cardiology and urology. In addition to medical staff, the team will also have a translator and a cook. The Chinese Cooperation supported with the construction of a dormitory with two floors, in Bidau, so that the staff of the Brigade may remain close to the hospital and provide better service to the community.
The Minister took the opportunity to recognize that it is necessary to expand the National Hospital Guido Valadares, in order to better accommodate the patients and improve customer service.
She also asked the families to, whenever possible, limit the number of visitors per patient, in order to not disturb other patients.
The Director-General of Services Provision, Odete Viegas, and the Executive Director of the Hospital, José António Gusmão, also took part in this event.
