Timor-Leste - platform for economic development in CPLP
The First Global Economic Forum of CPLP is one of the main initiatives of the organization’s rotating presidency, currently held by Timor-Leste. The Forum begun on February 25th, in Díli, and gathers delegations from over 20 countries and hundreds of companies and investors originating from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
In his opening speech, the Prime Minister, Rui Maria de Araújo, stated that "We wanted to instil a new economic and business dynamic within our Community, so as to realise our potentials; both among ourselves as well as among and between our partners."
Rui Maria de Araújo also added that "The First CPLP Global Economic Forum is consequently a unique opportunity for businesspeople to get to know each other and to showcase their businesses, within a relationship favouring direct contact between companies and nurturing entrepreneurship".
The meeting has thematic rooms on each country, where every visitor has the opportunity to know the business environment of each of the countries represented. There will be three days of business meetings, previously scheduled, taking into account the profile of each company and their specific needs.
Agriculture, agro industry and agro food, construction and public works, education, energy, manufacturing, health, information technologies, telecommunications, transport and tourism are, among others, some of the business sectors that will be present in Díli.
This initiative materialises the determination to create partnerships between companies from the Lusophone Community.
The meeting is supported by the CPLP, the Business Confederation of the CPLP (Portuguese acronym CE-CPLP) and the Exporters Union of the CPLP (Portuguese acronym UE-CPLP) and aims to promote Timor-Leste as a "platform for development."
Apart from Timor-Leste, investors from several other countries from all over the world are also represented, such as Angola, Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Cape Verde, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Spain, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
