Training on document falsification
The investigation of document falsification crimes was the theme of the most recent training action provided to the Scientific Police for Criminal Investigation (SPCI). The Certificates’ award ceremony took place on January 22nd, 2016.
The training took place over two weeks and brought together the largest number of participants of this formative cycle (about 40 trainees) which included magistrates, investigators, auditors from the Board of Auditors, technical staff from SERVE, from the National Directorate for Land and Property and Cadastral Services and from the National Directorate for Registration and Notary.
The training team was composed of two inspectors, specialists in this field, both from the Judiciary Police of Portugal, entity internationally recognized by the high technical quality of its agents.
This is the penultimate of about a dozen technical training actions, scheduled for the 2015-2016 period, for the development of capabilities in the areas of criminal investigation, scientific police and laboratorial analyses, in Timor-Leste.
The project is part of the Justice Component of the Timor-Leste Support Programme to Democratic Governance, delegated cooperation by the European Union on Portugal in the Camões Public Institute, which has, since 2012, a partnership with the Ministry of Justice of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and with other local entities. Through it, it has accompanied the creation of a new highly specialised criminal police, essential for the development of the country.
The Scientific Police for Criminal Investigation, established in 2014, has 47 investigators and 31 forensic experts, all trained under this Programme, which included training in Timor-Leste and in the School of Judicial Police, in Portugal.
The certificates award ceremony for training on the falsification of documents took place at the premises of the SPCI, in Caicoli, Dili. All trainees attended, as well as the highest representatives of the involved institutions, among which, the Minister of Justice, the President of the Court of Appeal, the Ambassador of Portugal and the Ambassador of the European Union.
