Timorese Scouts participate in International Jamboree in Japan
The Prime Minister, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, made the official farewell to the members of the National Union of Scouts of Timor-Leste (NUS-TL) that will participate in the International Jamboree, at a ceremony held on July 24th, in the Civil Society Lounge (in portuguese: Salão da Sociedade Civil), in the Government Palace.
This year, the scout meeting will take place between July 28th and August 9th, in the city of Yamaguchi, Japan.
It was with pride that the Head of the Executive said farewell to the members of NUS-TL that will participate in the event.
Rui Maria de Araújo underlined the importance of the participation of Timor-Leste in this Jamboree, since it will be the first as an independent country, and coincided with the formal approval of the existence of the NUS-TL, at a meeting of the Council of Ministers on July 21st, 2015. Scouting is a movement of voluntary activities that forms the character and educates young people to live in harmony with nature.
For these reasons, the Head of the Executive asked the scouts that will represent the country in the event to give a good image, and asked the National Union of Scouts to apply in the scout movement in Timor-Leste the doctrine of the movement's founder, Lord Baden Powell. To do this, the leaders must have a clear vision for the development of the movement, and the Rovers should be an example for the Pioneers, Explorers and Cubs.
Rui Maria de Araújo also took the opportunity to talk about his experience: "I have learned leadership in the scouting activities. I have learned to work together as a team and patrolling in scouting." Also stressed that the activities of scouting teach people, since childhood, to face the difficulties and to overcome the barriers, in addition to values such as discipline, teamwork, cooperation and mutual respect.
The Prime Minister also called for the scouts to not only participate in the activities, but to also always learn, and be pioneers, in the love of nature.
The Head of the Executive also informed that the Sixth Constitutional Government will provide full support to the work of the NUS-TL and assume the responsibility for creating the necessary conditions for the development of the movement.
Finally, the Prime Minister wished success to the members of the NUS-TL that will participate in the Jamboree, asking them to establish networks of friendship with the scouts from other countries, in order to widen the horizons of the scout movement in Timor-Leste.
