The Prime Minister, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, visited the National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) in Becora, Díli, on May 11th, 2015, to learn more about the services provided by that public institution in favour of the Timorese disabled.

Accompanying the Chief of the Executive were the Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and the Minister of Social Solidarity, Isabel Guterres.

The NRC's mission is to "improve the quality of life of the disabled, so that they can enjoy a fair, specialized and integrated rehabilitation."

The Head of Government expressed its appreciation for the services provided by the NRC in favour of the disabled in Timor-Leste.

"They are providing a good service. And we, as citizens, and I in particular, as responsible for the activity of the Government, it is up to us to support services of this quality, so that the Timorese with disabilities can benefit from the attention they deserve. "

On this visit, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo learned about the conditions and services to users with disabilities, particularly in the areas of Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, adaptation to wheelchairs and Basic Rehabilitation.

"A good service to disabled people can benefit the development of Timor-Leste," said the Prime Minister.

Taking advantage of this occasion, Rui Maria de Araújo talked to users, instilling in them courage to overcome the difficult situations they face.

The National Rehabilitation Centre was formerly called NGO ASSERT (Asosiasaun Hi'it Ema Ra'es Timor).

The Chief Executive assured that the Sixth Constitutional Government will continue to contribute to the services provided by NRC, so that it can progress and extend to the whole territory.
