Timor-Leste launches Commercial Seed program

The Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Estanislau da Silva, launched, on March 19th, the new program Seed. Organized by the National Association for Producers of Commercial Seeds (ANAPROFIKO, acronym in Tetúm), the ceremony took place at the facilities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, in Comoro, Díli.

The ANAPROFIKO was established by representatives from 58 commercial seed producers. The varieties of seeds available are Sele and Noi-mutincorn seeds , Nakroman rice seeds and Utamu peanut seeds.

Estanislau da Silva congratuled the farmers and explained that the launching of the program represents a new development stage for agriculture and for the protection of farmers’ interests.

The Executive member hopes that ANAPROFIKO may help the Government on this specific area of agriculture, in seed production.
