The Secretary of State for Land and Property, Jaime Xavier Lopes, along with the President of the consortium for the National Registry System (NRS), Jorge Serrano, launched, on April 13th, the starting ceremony of the registry for the Municipality of Baucau.

The NRS is aimed at promoting the systematic cadastral survey of the territory of Timor-Leste.

On his speech, Jaime Xavier referred that this is the second data collection. The first one was performed during the Fourth Constitutional Government.

“This survey is important because it brought the modernization of data survey. On the previous system, when measuring the land, we only used the tape measure. In many countries, they don´t even use these modern equipment. We call on communities not to begin conflicts and to cooperate with technical teams in place”, he referred.

The Secretary of State for Land and Property still referred that the Timorese Government is determined to respond to the existing challenges. Therefore, it is of extreme importance the regularization of property holders, based on the adoption of clear and fair rules.

Due to the dearth of information, the Deputy Administrator for the Municipality of Baucau, Francisco Xavier da Silva Guterres, warns on possible problems that may rise on communities, insofar as the property regularization is concerned.

In order to avoid this kind of situations, Francisco Guterres called on the heads of suco to carefully follow the advices from the Secretary of State, Jaime Xavier Lopes.
