Prime Minister calls on local authorities to organize general cleaning
On Friday, April 10th, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Dr. Rui Maria de Araújo, asked local authorities to mobilize the population for the general cleaning. This initiative is intended to allow public servants to gradually stop this activity.
The Prime Minister's request followed a meeting with officials of the Ministry of State Administration (MSA), at Dom Aleixo Administrative Post, in Díli. MSA is responsible for organizing this activity, in order to raise awareness to the problem of waste and create a healthy environment.
Accompanied by Vice Minister of State Administration, Tomás do Rosário Cabral, the Timorese Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining the capital of the country clean.
"Our problem is not the lack of money, lack of people to work or lack of political will, but rather a better organization of public services," he explained.
"We want to deliver to the local authorities - administrators of Municipalities, Administrative Posts and Suco Chiefs - the responsibility to mobilize the population to do the cleaning in their neighbourhoods," he continues.
In order to follow through with this process, it is necessary to ensure coordination between the Ministry of State Administration and the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications. In turn, the Vice Minister of State Administration asked Suco Chiefs to give instructions to commercial establishments for these to take the initiative in cleaning up the streets.
