Prime Minister asks the Catholic Church continuing to support in Education
The Head of Government, Rui Maria de Araújo, has received the visit of Monsignor Joseph Marino, Apostolic Nuncio to Kuala Lumpur, on Friday, February 27th, at the Government Palace.
Monsignor Joseph Marino was accompanied by the Timorese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Hernâni Coelho, and by Monsignor Ionut Paul Strejac, Charge d’Affaires for the Vatican in Timor-Leste.
The prelate of Kuala Lumpur was touched by the Prime Minister’s speech, upon the swearing-in of the Sixth Constitutional Government, which had motivated him to make this visit as a means of exchanging points of view on issues related to Timor-Leste and the Vatican.
The Prime Minister has requested the Catholic Church to continue providing support in the area of education since many Timorese have always attended catholic schools, thus being an advantage the establishment of further teaching facilities in Timor-Leste.
By the same token Monsignor Joseph Marino has given the same importance to Education, by referring that “Without Education, the future is lost”, thus reinforcing the great impact that this sector has in society.
Monsignor Joseph also added that the Church has always kept cooperation with the Timorese People, a mostly beloved people, by showing its availability to do its utmost to contribute to the Education sector, as well as other sectors.
The representative for the Holy See has expressed the hope to see, in the future, a continuous cooperation between the Church and the Government. According to the plan from the Vatican, it will soon be appointed a new Bishop for the Diocese of Díli.
