The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of the Interior, in cooperation with the Government of Japan, through the Nipon Lorosa’e Association, organized a week of training, in Dili, aimed at ten firefighters. The training finished on February 23rd, at the firefighters’ department building, in Caicoli.

Considering that the Government of Japan is delivering six firefighting vehicles to the Government of Timor-Leste, through the National Directorate of Civil Protection from the Ministry of the Interior, training was mostly focused on the driver’s service and on the usage of specialized vehicles.

According to the President of the Nipon Lorosa’e Association, former Ambassador of Japan for Timor-Leste, Iwao Kitahara, these vehicles will be supporting firefighters’ work, considering that from a total of six, three of the vehicles are already in Timor-Leste and the remaining are arriving.

Kenzy and Hata were the firefighters trainers and were satisfied by having successfully accomplished to provide the training on one single week, despite the cultural and linguistic difference, and called on the trainees to use the cars appropriately.

The National Director of Civil Protection (NDCP), Cândido Filomeno Pereira Gusmão, thanked all the support and knowledge imparted by the Japanese, by offering them “a simple 'tais', which is part of the culture of Timor-Leste, as a sign of gratitude and dedication”.
