Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation takes part on the inauguration ceremony of the President of Mozambique

The Minister of State and of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Luís Guterres, took part on the inauguration ceremony of Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, recently elected as President of Mozambique. The event took place in Maputo, on January 15th, 2015 and Minister Guterres was present, in representation of the State and the Government of Timor-Leste.

Mozambique is one of the members of CPLP, organization being led by Timor-Leste during two years, having started its rotating presidency in 2014.

The participation of Timor-Leste in this ceremony was very important, reinforcing the already established friendship bounds. The Government of Mozambique also appreciated and thanked the presence of Timor-Leste.

In this official visit, the Minister José Luís Guterres verbally passed on to the President Filipe Jacinto Hyusi the congratulations of the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (RDTL), Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and of the President of the National Parliament, Vicente Guterres, and handed him a letter from the President of RDTL, Taur Matan Ruak.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation, including economic cooperation, namely on the oil area, as well as on gas, energy, justice and education.

Meanwhile, on another meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Mozambique, Oldemiro Baloi, some cooperation issues were approached, namely around CPLP.

The Minister José Luís Guterres also met with the former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, who gave full support to the struggle of Timor-Leste, when he was still Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mozambique, and with the former President Armando Emílio Guebuza.

Furthermore, he also met the former Prime Minister, Pascoal Mocumbi, with the Minister of Health, Leonardo Simão, with the former Minister of Information, Óscar Monteiro, and with the Director of the Secret Services, Matias Xavier.

“These personalities played a very important role during the period of the Resistance of Timor-Leste. They gave us all their support in those difficult times”, explained José Luís Guterres.
