National Archive is crucial for good governance

The Ministry of State Administration, through the National Directorate of Archive, organized a national seminar under the subject “Importance of the National Archive towards Good Governance and National Development”, at Hotel Timor, in Díli, on September 5th, 2014.

At the opening ceremony, the Minister of State Administration, Jorge da Conceição Teme, congratulated the programs of the 5th Constitutional Government protecting national entities in order to encourage, promote and preserve culture, through actions of recovery, maintenance and archive of official and historical documents of the country.

According to the Minister, the National Archive is a public entity, has public institution nature, and has quality and legal personality, and administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy, being tutored by the State through the Organic Law of the Ministry of State Administration, established by the Decree Law n. 7/2013, from May 22nd.

The National Archive holds crucial competences and responsibilities on State building, by maintaining and preserving cultural and historical identity of all our peoples.

The Interim General Director for the National Archive, Hermes da Rosa, referred the aim of the seminar, which was to call the people’s attention on the importance of National Archive and on the strengthening of a uniformed national system file on Public Administration: “This seminar aims to stimulate constructive ideas, which will benefit the development of National Archive.''

As speakers of the seminar were PhD Faustino Cardoso, the former Vice Prime Minister of the Government of AMP, Eng. Mário Viegas Carrascalão and, also, the Archive expert, PhD Helena de Medeiros. She introduced the role of National Archive on the support to good governance, national development and national archive system for Public Administration of Timor-Leste.
