Government supports 20 traders for the establishment of People’s Shops
The Minister for Commerce, Industry and Environment, António da Conceição, signed an agreement with a group of beneficiaries, comprising 20 people from the districts, who will establish People’s Shops. Accompanying the Minister were the Vice Minister for Commerce, Industry and Environment, Abel da Costa Ximenes and the Secretary of State for Commerce, Ricardo Cardoso Nheu. The ceremony took place on September 4th, at the building of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Environment.
The districts benefiting from the support are Ainaro, Bobonaro, Baucau, Ermera, Manatuto, Manufahi, Lautem, Liquiça, Oe-Cusse Ambeno, Covalima e Viqueque. Each People’s Shop receives a total amount of USD5.000,00.
“We are doing the launch of People’s Shops even in remote areas and distant districts. The beneficiaries were chosen in order for us to work together, as means of connecting the Ministry to subdistricts, acting on local markets, in connection with the subdistricts”, referred the Minister.
People’s Shop is a concept and a policy instrument of the Ministry, aiming to assist population in solving the problem of high prices and unsatisfactory quality. The Ministry assumes, therefore, the responsibility and competence to monitor prices and quality.
The Government takes the responsibility of giving small grants to the development of this king of businesses in the future. This way, it continues its policy of stabilizing prices across subdistricts.
“We hope that your action will positively affect life conditions of populations in the districts to which you belong”, further added António da Conceição.
The National Directorate for Cooperatives, Micro and Small Businesses will assure control and support, in terms of training and management.
