Prime Minister in Melbourne and in New York

The Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, visits Melbourne, from September 15th to September 20th, departing then from this Australian city to New York, where he will be, from September 21st until September 27th.

The Prime Minister is undertaking a working visit to Melbourne in which he leads some key events.

In New York, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão participates as a speaker in the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and in a g7+ high level event, that takes place outside of UNGA.

Melbourne

In Melbourne the Prime Minister, along with the Governor-General of Australia, the Honorable Sir Peter Cosgrove, delivers a Keynote Address at an international conference celebrating the 15th Anniversary of INTERFET. This Conference will be attended by the key actors in Timor-Leste, in 1999, from Australia, Indonesia and Asia. Following the address, the Prime Minister formally meets with the Governor-General of Australia. The Prime Minister also attends the official conference dinner.

Xanana Gusmão will also be awarding Timor-Leste Medals of Solidarity to Australian activists that supported the resistance struggle. The Investiture Ceremony will be held at Queen's Hall of the Victoria Parliament and will also be attended by the local Timorese community.

The Prime Minister also addresses a special business lunch to promote investment and business opportunities in Timor-Leste. The lunch, attended by many leading Australian business people, provides an opportunity to promote economic development and job creation in Timor-Leste.

New York

In New York, on September 22nd, the Prime Minister gives a speech at a high level event of g7+.

Entitled “Peace” and “capable institutions” as stand-alone goals in the Post-2015 Development Agenda: g7+ Perspectives, the event brings together g7+ Ministers, Permanent Representatives, members of the International Dialogue and other partners to focus on the importance of including these goals in the Post-2015 framework so that it can be truly transformative and responsive to the needs and realities of the 21st century.

On the 25th, Xanana Gusmão delivers a speech in the United Nations, upon the 69th Session of the United Nations’ General Assembly, thus finishing his work trip.

The Prime Minister returns to Timor-Leste on September 30th.
