The National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL) graduated over 242 new police agents after a year of training. The ceremony took place on April 30th, at the Police Training Centre, in Comoro.

The Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Guterres, congratulated the new police agents, reinforcing their importance to the community and in the national development process.

“You have taken another important step towards reinforcing the security sector, namely in PNTL. For a year, and before your graduation as PNTL agents, you had to overcome some difficulties, which shows that you have acquired sufficient knowledge and ability”, stated Francisco Guterres.

Also the Second General Commander of PNTL, Commissioner Afonso de Jesus, called for discipline, loyalty and behaviour of the new agents, in the workplace and next to the community.

The Commander of the Police Training Centre, Chief Superintendent Júlio Ornai, referred that the Centre received 245 candidates, and three of them resigned. The area of training was based on the agents’ training curriculum, being divided into three parts: basic training, during two months in Raiboro; scholar training during seven months at the Police Training Centre; and two months of practice.

The new PNTL agents will be placed at the Special Police Unit (120 agents), at the General Headquarters (29 agents), at the Border Patrol Unit (50 agents), at the Maritime Police Unit (28 agents), at the Training Centre (5 agents), at the Criminal Investigation Services (4 agents) and at the Police Information Service (6 agents).
