Timor-Leste and Indonesia implement Agreements in the area of Defence

The Secretary of State for Defence, Júlio Tomás Pinto, along with the Chief of General Staff of the F-FDTL, Major General Lere Anan Timur, received, on April 24th, the Indonesian delegation, headed by Major General Hartind Asrin.
This visit from the Indonesian delegation had as an objective a bilateral meeting for the implementation of the Agreement for the area of Defence, signed in 2011 between both States, regarding the different areas in which the human resources of the F-FDTL may be trained, in order to increase their capacity thus becoming more professional.
According to Júlio Tomás Pinto, the training that Timor-Leste needs the most is in the area of engineering, amongst others being discussed, being possible that this cooperation will begin already in the year of 2015.
According to the Director-General of the Secretariat of State for Defence, also present at this bilateral meeting, “Indonesia will provide practice and training courses at short, medium and long term, for the members of F-FDTL and of the Secretariat of State for Defence”, also referring that, considering that there are courses in several areas, it should be for the Secretariat of State for Defence to determine which are the priority ones.
At the moment, there is a course running in LEMHANNAS (National Resilience Institute of Indonesia) for which Timor-Leste has already sent a senior officer, and two others were already trained in the past.
