Timor-Leste at g7+ Ministerial Meeting of Monrovia, Liberia

On 14 June 2011, 14 g7+ delegations including nine ministers held a meeting in Monrovia, Liberia to discuss various issues with a view to achieve a one voice on Peace Building and State Building. The event was co-chaired by the Timor-Leste Minister of Finance, Emília Pires, and the Minister of Planning and Economic Affairs of Liberia, Amara Konneh.

In the event, Minister Oliver Kamitatu from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) also made a presentation on the objectives of the dialogue that will be discussed with the development partners subsequently. The Timor-Leste Finance Minister, Emília Pires spoke about the long process that Timor-Leste has undergone in the lead up to this event in Monrovia and to the High Level Forum in Busan (South Korea) in November.

Another topic that was addressed in this g7+ meeting was the common interests of the fragile states or in conflict situation (g7+) that were also discussed with the development partners in the international dialogue on 15 and 16 June 2011, which resulted on the Monrovia Roadmap on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding. These common interests include: legitimate politics, security, jobs for all, access to justice and manage resources well.

It was also agreed by the delegates to have a retreat in South Sudan on 18 and 19 October which is expected to address several issues such as the structure of g7+, work plans, secretariat, and self financing.
