Congratulations to President-elect of Brazil

The Government of Timor-Leste presents its warm congratulations to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his election as President of the Republic of Brazil and wishes him much success in the performance of his noble duties.

Lula da Silva was elected President for the third time, after having already governed Brazil between 2003 and 2010, and will take office on January 1st, 2023.

In July 2008, during his previous term of office, Lula da Silva visited Timor-Leste and met with the national Head of State and Head of Government, and also visited the National Parliament.

The Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak addressed his congratulations to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and expressed "wishes for success for his leadership”.

The Head of the Government also stated he hoped Lula da Silva "will lead the Brazilian people to even greater success" and that "this is a great victory for the Brazilian people, not only for having a new leadership but also for demonstrating that Brazil is a country that values the democratic system”.

The Spokesperson of the 8th Constitutional Government, Minister Fidelis Magalhães, on behalf of the Council of Ministers and the entire Government, expressed the reinforced hope that with the renewed leadership of Lula da Silva, the strong ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations will continue to be strengthened".
