Business Forum in Darwin promotes investment opportunities in Timor-Leste

On the 16th of June TradeInvest Timor-Leste, the Government agency for the promotion of investment and export, held its first business forum in Darwin, Australia, to highlight investment opportunities in Timor-Leste.

The Minister of State, Coordinator of Economic Affairs and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Estanislau da Silva, said: “Timor-Leste is encouraging business development in those five sectors with the greatest potential in the country: Oil and Gas, Agriculture, Fisheries, Tourism and Manufacturing Industry” to which he added mining activity. At the end, he left a proposal: “Timor-Leste is ready to do business and to trade. Come to Timor-Leste and invest in the sectors of your dreams.”

The Head of Government of the Northern Territory, Chief Minister Michael Gunner MP, attended the forum and committed to “support the development of Timor-Leste and the strengthening of the relationship between the two countries.” He noted that Timor-Leste and Australia do not only have a commercial relationship and recalled the close historical relationship dating back to the Second World War.

TradeInvest took Timorese entrepreneurs to this event to build up their in-depth knowledge of the Australian private sector..

The Interim Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Isabel Ximenes, the Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Peter Doyle, and over one hundred Timorese and Australian entrepreneurs attended the forum.
