The Minister of Justice of Timor-Leste, Ivo Valente, presides over the opening session of the 1st Meeting of Prison Services Board of Directors of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of the Portuguese-speaking Countries (Portuguese acronym CMJPLOP).
For two days, senior officials from prison and penitentiary administration of the countries participating in the CMJPLOP will define the role of their Prison Services Board of Directors.
This meeting has as its main theme: “Prison Systems, Social Rehabilitation and Human Rights”, fulfilling what was set out in the 14th Conference of Ministers of Justice of Portuguese-speaking Countries, which took place in Dili, on June 22nd and 23rd, 2015, and in line with the program of the Timorese CPLP Presidency.
In line with the procedure that has been developed by other committees within the CMJPLOP, in this 1st Meeting a General Principles Charter for Prisons Systems and Social Rehabilitation within the CPLP will be pursued.
