Prime Minister Calls for International Solidarity to End the Conflict in Myanmar

On March 4, 2024, Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão participated in an event organised by the Myanmar community in Melbourne, Australia. During the event, he reiterated his support for the struggle for freedom, the promotion of peace, and national unity, with a view to ending the political-military conflict that has ravaged the country since the military junta took power in 2021. 431350807_262333653589637_8519644489488354454_n

Timor-Leste's Head of Government has reaffirmed the need to implement the five-point consensus signed by ASEAN leaders in 2021 to resolve the Myanmar conflict. This agreement highlights five crucial points, including the immediate cessation of violence, the promotion of constructive dialogues between all parties, the facilitation of mediation through ASEAN, the provision of humanitarian assistance and the holding of meetings in Myanmar between ASEAN representatives and all parties involved. 430890393_262334820256187_1952787644214920383_n

“I call on the military junta to respect the democratic principles and the will to freedom of the Myanmar people. Our experience of struggle makes me recognise the value of dialogue and democracy and the importance of international solidarity. We have to tell the people of Myanmar that they are not alone, that we are with them, to support them until their dream becomes a reality”, declared Xanana Gusmão. 431009683_262334450256224_1241058129175055767_n

The Prime Minister encouraged the Myanmar community in Australia to continue campaigning hard, with the involvement of solidarity groups and political leaders worldwide, to find a solution to the conflict jointly. 430875209_262334633589539_7327887399349575115_n

The representative of the Government of National Unity of Myanmar in Australia, Tun Aung Shwe, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão and the people of Timor-Leste for their support in resolving the military crisis in Myanmar.
