Government and Vatican continue preparations for Pope Francis’ possible visit

The Minister of State Administration, Tomás do Rosário Cabral, in his capacity as Institutional High-Level Vice Coordinator General for the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis, welcomed the Representative of the Holy See in Timor-Leste, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, to his office on February 26th, 2024, to discuss the preparations for the Holy Father's visit.

This meeting helped to take stock of the preparations underway for the Holy Father's visit to Timor-Leste, as well as to discuss the following initiatives to be carried out to ensure the success of this visit. 428624286_122155329272033433_6675991280087056594_n

On February 12th, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi revealed that, although “it is not yet possible to confirm a date”, “the Timorese Government is making excellent preparations”. He also thanked the Government “on behalf of the Holy See” “for the enormous, excellent, competent and efficient work being done to prepare for the Pope's possible visit to Timor-Leste”.

The Minister of State Administration, Tomás do Rosário Cabral, was appointed Institutional High-Level Vice Coordinator General for this visit by the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, through Order No. 012/GPM/I/2024, of January 11th, 2024, which also appointed the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, as Institutional High-Level Coordinator General.
