Minister Agio Pereira Holds First Meeting with United Nations Coordinator

The Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, met, on July 13th,  2023, with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Timor-Leste, Funmi Balogun and her team, which included the former Deputy Minister of Finance, Sara Lobo Brites, to discuss cooperation with the United Nations following the Government's priorities.

In this first meeting since the inauguration of the 9th Constitutional Government, Minister Agio Pereira briefed the UN Coordinator on the general lines of the Government Programme and the priorities for the mandate.

The Minister highlighted as priorities institutional strengthening, the focus on education and decentralisation, job creation, tax reduction and the creation of the National Development Bank, which will provide low-interest credit to support the private sector.

Funmi Balogun expressed the willingness of the various United Nations agencies to support Timor-Leste in several areas according to the Government's priorities.
